Trouble over the Guardian hedge?

Furrowed brows at the dull but worthy Guardian Media Group, where amazing rumours circle about possible redundancies following huge hedge fund losses supposedly suffered by the media company.
Apparently the brothers within the Grauniad trade unions are now involved and the name of former GMG chairman, Lord "just take the pension, Sir Fred" Myners is also being linked to this sorry tale - all of which gets me thinking.
Surely this story is far too good to be true?

Ton-up at The Times

Much embarrassment at the Times, which seems to have bungled its new redundancy programme.
I hear that management assumed that they could get away with whacking some production staff along with a load of casuals - carelessly forgetting that, under employment law, dispatching a casual counts just the same as sacking a full-time member of staff.
So all the whacked casuals nudged the number of lay-offs just above the magic 100 mark – the level which means that the paper now has to go through a lengthy consultation process. D’oh!

Murdoch's new slimming plan?

Is there a New Year slimline regime about to be instituted at the Murdoch media empire?
James Murdoch, boss of News Corp, has been addressing the troops at Fortress Wapping this week when one brave soul asked him if there was a planned redundancy programme.
"That's not a phrase I'm familiar with," batted back Murdoch.
That's probably a 'yes', then.
